Agile Adoption Anti-patterns

This session focuses on the things that you shouldn't do when trying to introduce Agile practices to an organisation.

Maybe you drank the Agile cool-aid and are struggling to introduce agile on your own or you are an Agile Coach trying to make some sense of the madness that is your current client. There are many more ways for agile adoption to fail than for it to succeed. Drawing on his experience introducing Agile principles and practices in large blue-chip organisations, the speaker will showcase a number of anti-patterns, technological to methodological that could put your agile rollout at risk.

This talk is an exploration of some of the things that can go wrong when introducing agile to organisations, presented as a series of anti-patterns and smells.

About James
James Lewis is a Lead Consultant for ThoughtWorks based in the UK where he has helped introduce Agile to various blue chip companies: Investment Banks, Publishers and media organisations. James studied Astrophysics in the 90's but got sick of programming in Fortran. Twelve years of DBA, Java development, software design and software architecture later, he believes that writing software is the easy part of the problem. Most of the time it's about getting people thinking right. He is passionate about the XP practices, seeding cultural change within organisations and applying what he's learnt to deploy maintainable, robust and scalable software into production on time and on budget.

Yes, it was a well thought-out and well-delivered talk. I'll add a link to the slides here when James lets me know.

This was a truly enjoyable evening. I learned a lot about the hazards of introducing agile methods into a range of different circumstances. James spoke naturally, fluently and compellingly drawing from his obviously substantial experience in this area.
